North Dakota became a member of the Junior High Division of the National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA) in December 2004. The North Dakota Junior High Rodeo Division (NDJHRD) is based on the same high standards of sportsmanship, conduct, and academic excellence while developing future rodeo contestants.
The NDJHRD provides young cowboys and cowgirls in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades the opportunity to compete at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo.
Junior High contestants compete in: Junior Bull Riding, Tie-Down Roping, Boys Breakaway Roping, Girls Breakaway Roping, Chute Dogging, Boys Goat Tying, Girls Goat Tying, Ribbon Roping (team consists of a boy and a girl), Team Roping, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, BB Steer Riding, SB Steer Riding, and Queen Contest.
